Why Olympic Psychology Services

Therapy that actually goes somewhere

A lot of people have been to therapy before. They've sat across from someone, talked for 50 minutes, and left wondering if anything would ever change. That's not what we do here.

At Olympic Psychology Services, every clinician holds a doctoral degree in clinical or counseling psychology. That means your therapist isn't just a good listener — they have the diagnostic depth, clinical training, and evidence-based toolkit to help you understand what's happening and actually move through it.

We're a group practice, which means you have access to a range of specialties under one roof. And we've been serving Tacoma and Washington for over 18 years — so when we say we know this community, we mean it.

Whether you've never been to therapy before, or you've been before and it didn't quite land - we think this time can be different. The right clinician, the right approach, and a practice that takes your care seriously. That's what we're built to offer.

What We Treat

Conditions we commonly work with

Our clinicians are trained across a wide range of presentations. If you don't see your specific concern listed, call us. We treat a broad spectrum of mental health needs and will be honest with you if we're not the right fit.

Anxiety & Worry

Generalized anxiety, panic disorder, social anxiety, health anxiety, OCD, and phobias. We use CBT, ACT, and exposure-based approaches with strong track records.

Depression

Major depression, persistent low mood, anhedonia, and seasonal affective patterns. We work on both the present experience and the underlying patterns driving it.

Trauma & PTSD

Single-incident trauma, complex trauma, childhood abuse, and PTSD from any cause. We offer EMDR, trauma-focused CBT, and somatic-informed approaches.

ADHD

Executive function coaching, emotional dysregulation, time management, relationship impacts, and co-occurring anxiety or depression. We also offer comprehensive ADHD assessment.

Grief & Loss

Loss of a person, relationship, identity, or life stage. Anticipatory grief, complicated grief, and the kind of loss that doesn't have a name but hurts just as much.

Life Transitions

Career changes, relationship endings, parenthood, aging, relocation, and identity shifts. Transitions are often underestimated.

Insomnia & Sleep

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy for Insomnia (CBT-I) — the gold-standard, medication-free treatment for chronic sleep difficulties.

LGBTQ+ Mental Health

Identity exploration, minority stress, family rejection, coming out, transition-related care, and navigating a world that doesn't always make it easy to be yourself.

How We Work:

Evidence-based, not one-size-fits-all

Good therapy isn't the same for everyone. Our clinicians draw on multiple evidence-based approaches and tailor treatment to your specific presentation, history, and goals. Here's what that might look like in practice:

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT)

One of the most well-researched therapy models for anxiety and depression. Helps you identify and shift thought patterns that keep you stuck, with practical tools you use between sessions.

Acceptance & Commitment Therapy (ACT)

Builds psychological flexibility and learning to relate to difficult thoughts and feelings differently, rather than fighting them. Particularly effective for anxiety, chronic pain, and life transitions.

EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing)

A structured, evidence-based protocol for trauma processing. Often effective for PTSD, single-incident trauma, and complex trauma, and often produces results faster than traditional talk therapy.

DBT Skills

Dialectical Behavior Therapy skills for emotional regulation, distress tolerance, interpersonal effectiveness, and mindfulness. Particularly useful for intense emotional experiences and relationship difficulties.

Psychodynamic & Relational Approaches

For clients who want to understand the deeper roots of their patterns, not just manage symptoms. Explores early experiences, relationship dynamics, and unconscious processes.

CBT-I for Insomnia

A specialized protocol specifically for sleep difficulties. The first-line clinical recommendation, it can be more effective than sleep medications for long-term results for some clients.

Note:  Our clinicians are highly skilled.  These modalities and approaches are just a few of the tools that they bring to session.  Just as no two people are the same, no two treatments are the same.  Each clinician brings their own unique mix of training and experience to the session in a way that will be a different experience for everyone.  Read the clinician bios for an idea of who each clinican is, and feel free to ask us questions to help us find the right fit.

How It Works

Getting started is easier than you think

Frequently Asked Questions

Questions about starting therapy

How do I get started?

Call us at (253) 269-6063 or fill out our online contact form. Our intake coordinator will reach out to you. We typically reach out on the same or next business day. You can get a chance to discuss your needs, verify insurance, and match you with the right clinician. New clients are typically seen within 1–2 weeks.

Do you accept my insurance?

We accept most major insurance plans in Washington State. The best way to confirm is to reach out to us. We'll verify your specific benefits before your first appointment so there are no surprises. You can also contact your insurance company to confirm.

Can I do therapy via video if I can't come in person?

Most of the time! We do use secure HIPAA-compliant telehealth sessions for clients throughout Washington State. Many clients choose a hybrid approach where they come in person when they can and using telehealth for convenience. Telehealth sessions are covered by most insurance plans the same way in-person sessions are.  Some clients are 100% telehealth, some are 0%, it's up to you and your clinician.  Note that while most therapy works very well over telehealth, not all does.  Talk to your clinician and see our telehealth webpage for more info.

How long does therapy take?

This is understandably a very common question, but the only real answer is "it depends". Your clinician will discuss this with you early on and revisit it regularly.  A lot of medical issues have very defined treatment plans and predictable outcomes, but that's usually not the case in mental health.  Once you see a clinician, they will be happy to discuss it with you, but each situation is unique so there is no honest way to give you a timeline prior to seeing the provider.

Is Olympic Psychology Services LGBTQ+ affirming?

Yes, fully and without reservation. We welcome clients of all gender identities, sexual orientations, and relationship structures. We are proud to help the community where and when we can, and we consider our office to be a safe place.

Where are you located? Do you have parking?

We're located at 711 Court A, Suite 114, in downtown Tacoma. close to the courthouse and accessible from I-705. Street parking ais available. We also offer telehealth for clients who prefer not to come in person or who live outside Tacoma.
