Dr. Kara Kellison

Kara Kellison, PhD is a licensed clinical psychologist who received her BA from Creighton University and her MS and PhD in Clinical Psychology from Seattle Pacific University. She completed both her pre-doctoral fellowship and post-doctoral fellowship at Madigan Army Medical Center.

Dr. Kellison works with both individuals and couples utilizing an evidence-based, process-based, cognitive-behavioral approach that includes mindfulness and acceptance-based treatments, Dialectical Behavior Therapy, Motivational Interviewing, and Gottman Method Couples Therapy. Dr. Kellison has specialty training in chronic pain and other chronic health conditions, trauma, depression and anxiety, mind-body health and wellness, couples, and military populations.


Dr. Kellison’s work with adolescents and adults typically focuses on issues of stress management, coping skills, depression, anxiety, eating and sleeping issues, mind-body health and wellness coaching, chronic health conditions, unresolved grief, trauma, relationship struggles, and difficult life changes.

A focus of Dr. Kellison’s practice is couples therapy. She has completed the Level 3 Practicum Training in Gottman Method Couples Therapy and is now proceeding to their Certification Track. Dr. Kellison’s goal is to assist couples in enhancing their friendship, strengthen conflict management, explore shared meaning, deepen connection, and purposefully process past regrettable incidents.

Dr. Kellison believes the work of therapy is often to learn how to be present with discomfort and cultivate a new path forward in the direction of the life one wants that is full, rich, and meaningful. Dr. Kellison aims to help clients identify and cope with internal obstacles that keep them from having the kind of life they want. Dr. Kellison works with clients along the process of making necessary changes to live more fulfilling lives that are centered on their personal values and strengths.

Dr. Kellison lives with her husband and their labradoodle in Tacoma. In her free time, she enjoys all things outdoors, reading, and cooking.
